Overview
Built in 1928, the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Coloane reflects the much older Baroque architectural style. The chapel is dedicated to St. Francis, a missionary who brought Christianity to Japan in the 1500s but died just 50 miles off of Macau. Relics of the saint remains within the chapel. A bone from St. Francis’s arm was once honoured within a silver reliquary on site, but this was later moved. Yet, the Chapel is perhaps better known for the popular Korean drama Goong which used it as a backdrop. The chapel also contains a small statue of St. Andrew Kim Taegon. Be sure to check out the famous Portuguese egg tarts at Lord Stow’s Bakery nearby.
